Summer at the Tallaght Photographic Society

The Tallaght Photographic Society have come to the end of another season.  There will be no more club meetings until September.  However it does mean the beginning of our summer outings for anyone who wants to come along! Each Tuesday evening, beginning Tuesday, June 2nd, we will meet in the car park of Molloy’s pub in Tallaght and head out on a short photo trip to some local place of photographic interest.  To make the most of the summer evenings we aim to leave at 7.30pm sharp.  We are beginning this summer’s outings with a trip to the seaside so we’re off to Bray!  See you in Molloy’s car park on Tuesday! Congratulations to all of the prize winning members at last Tuesday’s TPS Awards Ceremony: Ronan Kennedy, Andrew Butler, Ann Dennehy, Liam Hennessy, Paddy Sayers, Phil Callan, Maureen Hastings, Peter Murphy, Ben Russell, Mike le Page, Jon Moran, Neil O’Reilly, Karl Bergin and our Photographer of the Year, Carl Farmer. Committee member Brian Nealon was voted as the TPS Person of the Year and there is no other member of the Society more deserving of this award. Tallaght Photographic Society Awards Ceremony and End of Season Party

Tuesday, May 26th is sadly the last Tallaght Photographic Society meeting of the season.  However as usual we end the season with our Awards Ceremony and end of season party.  So on Tuesday we will find out who our monthly league competition winners are with awards each for Novice, Advanced and Premier winners.  Then the member with the most points accumulated over the league will be awarded the prestigious Photographer of the Year Award! We will also be announcing the winner of this month’s Best 4 Portfolio competition and the winner of the creative section of the TPS Treasure Hunt competition. Members have been secretly voting for their TPS Person of the Year and the member with the most nominations will receive the Tom Burgess TPS Person of the Year award.  This award had been reintroduced to the club proceedings at last September’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, was re-named and awarded posthumously to late TPS member and friend,  Tom Burgess, and was accepted by Tom’s daughter Evelyn. Finally we will finish the night and the season with a buffet of finger food and drinks! Although we’re finished our club meetings for the summer, traditionally we have always continued to meet up on Tuesday evenings for photographic outings.  We […]

Tuesday, May 12th at the TPS

Bring your cameras along to the Tallaght Photographic Society this Tuesday, May 12th as we are going to be taking some portraits of each other and finding out which camera settings are better for portraits.  We’re meeting at the Maldron Hotel from 8pm sharp. Tuesday the 12th is also the deadline for entering the Best 4 Portfolio competition.  Members can enter four images in each of the disciplines, Colour Print, Black and White Print and Digital/Projected images.  This is a non-divisional competition i.e. novice, advanced and premier all compete against one another.  Again, the submissions are given to an impartial judge who picks winners in each of the three categories and an over-all winner.  The winners will be announced at our prize giving night and end of season party on May 26th. Congrats to member John Coffey on winning May’s one shot competition with the theme of Creative Self Portraits.  John’s imaginative multiplicity portrait was chosen by April’s winner David Turnbull.  John  has chosen “Glamour” as the theme for the next one shot competition which will be taking place in September 1st when the Society reconvene after the summer break!

May 5th – Guest Speaker Catherine MacBride

This Tuesday, May 5th at the TPS we have a very special guest speaker in Catherine MacBride.  Catherine was a past member of the TPS along with her husband Scott and achieved her LIPF and AIPF as a TPS member.  Cat is also a talented artist and often combines her arts and crafts with her distinctive style of tabletop photography.  She is possibly Ireland’s most successful stock photographer having sold many images through the likes of Getty and Stocksy.  She has had several of her images used on book covers and is a regular contributor to Digital SLR Photography magazine.  See Cat’s website for a glimpse of her photographs.  Our meeting begins at 8pm sharp so don’t be late! Tuesday is also our themed one-shot competition entry night!  May’s theme is Creative Self Portraits and was chosen by April’s winner David Turnbull.  Turn those cameras on yourself to be in with a chance to win!
