Tuesday, December 1st – Some craic with cartoon characters

This Tuesday, December 1st at the TPS, member Paul Maxwell will be demonstrating adding cartoon characters into photographs with the power of Photoshop to create images like the one below: Also this Monday, is December’s “Curves” themed one shot competition entry night.   November’s winner, Derek Morrissey will pick a winner from the entries.  Email your entries to or bring along your image on a USB stick.  The winner will pick the theme for January’s one shot competition and will judge the entries. Congratulations to member Des Maguire on achieving his Licentiateship distinction with the Irish Photographic Federation at their distinctions sitting in Thurles on Saturday.  Hopefully Des will bring along his successful panel to a club meeting very soon!

November 24th – League Competition Judging

This coming Tuesday, November 24th is November’s league competition judging.  Our guest judge this month is Fearghal Breathnach LIPF from Greystones Camera Club.  Fearghal’s interest in photography covers a wide variety of subjects from landscapes to creative imagery.  You can see Fearghal’s photographs on his website: Don’t forget that our one shot competition takes place the following week on December 1st.  The theme for December is “Curves” and November’s winner, Derek Morrissey, will pick a winner from the entries. Also coming up in December will be guest speaker Michelle le Grue and our Christmas party which is taking place on Tuesday, December 15th at Molloy’s pub in Tallaght!

TPS meeting – November 17th

This coming Tuesday, November 17th, we will continue our beginners’ photography course, the TPS Guide to Photography.  Last time, we looked at the history and evolution of photography and then went on to see what makes a camera work.  Then we examined the three ways that we control light with the camera: aperture, shutter speed and ISO.  This week we’ll have a look at more camera functions and perhaps explore the extra kit and accessories a photographer might need. The meeting takes place in the Maldron Hotel, Tallaght and begins at 8pm sharp. The Tallaght Photography Society were nominated for an award in the Arts and Culture category for this year’s Tallaght Person of the Year.  Just to receive a nomination in this prestigious event is an incredible honour and we have received a certificate of nomination from the Tallaght Community Council who run the event.  The TPotY awards ceremony takes place on Friday, November 20th at the Red Cow Pavillion. Tuesday November 10th – Guest Speaker: Aoife Hester

Our special guest speaker this Tuesday, November 10th is Bray based photographer, Aoife Hester.  Aoife specialises in landscapes, time-lapse photography and photomanipulation and creates hugely creative images.  Aoife has also won awards in various photographic competitions over the years and won 1st place for her photo “Dogs on a Train” in 2012 in the Irish Times Amateur Photographer of the Year’s Travel category and was awarded Bronze in this year’s Open section.  For a peek at Aoife’s images, visit her website: Congratulations to member Derek Morrisey on winning the “Moving” themed one shot competition.  Derek has chosen “Curves” as the theme for December’s competition.  Derek will pick a winner from the entries on December 1st! Tuesday, November 3rd – Guest Speaker: Owen O’Connor AIPPA

This coming Tuesday, November 3rd, we are very honoured to have guest speaker Owen O’Connor AIPPA from Raheney Camera Club. Owen will be talking to us about his fashion and portrait photography.  Owen’s work has been published in Irish Tatler, the Evening Herald, The Irish Star and various wedding magazines.  He has also received many awards from the Irish Professional Photographers Assocation (IPPA), the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) and the British Press Photographers’ Assocation (BPPA).  Owen was awarded an Associateship for Portraiture by the IPPA and was the SWPP and BPPA Portrait Photographer of the Year in 2007.  Visit Owen’s website to learn and see more – Don’t forget to bring along your “Moving” themed one shot competition entries as well this Tuesday.  October’s winner, Maureen Hastings will pick a winning image from the entries and the winner will get to choose the theme for December’s competition.
