TPS Outing Tuesday, 17th July 2018

This Tuesday’s trip is to Cabinteely Park. Cabinteely Park, which surrounds Cabinteely House, is an example of late 18th and early 19th century landscape. As with Marlay Park, the landscape of Cabinteely Park was highly influenced by Capability Brown, resulting in the natural appearance of the park. Ponds and informal clusters of trees draw attention to the natural lie of the land in order to give it depth. We will meet at Molloys car park at 7.30pm sharp to carpool if necessary. Parking is available in Cabinteely House car park, which can be accessed either from Cornelscourt Hill Road (via M50) or the Bray Road. As usual keep in touch via the WhatsApp TPS Outings group!

The Great South Wall (also sometimes called the South Bull Wall) at the Port of Dublin, extends from the tip of the Poolbeg peninsula more than four kilometres out into Dublin Bay. It was the world’s longest sea wall at the time of its construction, and remains one of the longest in Europe. It faces the newer Bull Wall, and has one of a trio of port lighthouses at its end. We will meet at Molloys car park at 7.30pm sharp to carpool if necessary. Parking at the South Wall is either at Shelley Banks car park or further on at the roadside. TPS Outing Tuesday, 3rd July 2018

This Tuesday we are heading to Carton House, which is located in a 1,100 acre parkland area in Maynooth. For two hundred years Carton House estate was the finest example in Ireland of a Georgian-created parkland landscape. In the 2000’s much of the estate was redeveloped into two golf courses and the house into a hotel complex. Of interest is the iconic boathouse, Tom’s weir, Tyrconnell tower, Shell cottage, and the house itself which is a restored mansion. There is also a rich diversity of native animals and birds. We will meet at Molloys car park at 7.30pm sharp to carpool if necessary. As usual keep in touch via the WhatsApp TPS Outings group!

TPS Outing Tuesday, 19th June 2018

This Tuesday’s trip is to Sallins, Co. Kildare. The Grand Canal flows through Sallins Village, and there is a variety of barges moored on it. The local pub is pretty, and the canal bridge is a feature in itself. If the evening is bright, a stroll along the canal may bring you to insects for those interested in macro-style shots. For those wanting a photo with canal locks, ‘Lock 15’ is a five minute drive away. We will meet at Molloy’s car park at 7:30pm sharp to car pool. On arrival, those driving can park along the canal, just over the bridge, and we can reconvene at the Lock 13 Public house (OUTSIDE!). If using Google Maps for directions, search for ‘Lock 13’ Sallins. As usual keep in touch via the WhatsApp TPS Outings group!
