This Saturday and Sunday, the 19^th and 20^th, the TPS have monochrome and colour panels entered into the IPF National Club Competition.  This competition is being held in Athlone Institute of Technology and will include IPF distinction sittings (Saturday).  Thanks to everyone who submitted images for consideration for the panels and a big thank you to our selection committee for their input on selecting the images submitted.

Tallaght Photographic Society member, Eddie Byrne has an exhibition of about 30 photographs on at Skerries Mills in North Co Dublin until the 28^th of May.  Eddie would be delighted if you could spare the time and make the trip to Skerries and check out his exhibition!

This Tuesday, we will have Alan Ivory and Kevin Cummins from DML doing a talk for us on lighting equipment.  DML do a wide range of photographic and lighting equipment and accessories and will come prepared with a lot of stuff to show us!

So that’s at 7.30pm, May 15th in Conference Room 3 at the Victory Centre, on the Firhouse Road, Tallaght.

It is also practical night this week and we are going to try out some still life and table top photography so remember to bring along your cameras, tripods, flashes and any other equipment you might need.  Also – bring along something to photograph – anything goes!

We also have our One-Shot competition with the theme of ”Fearless” – Regimantas Lukosius will pick the winning image.  The winning photographer will get an Eason voucher and will also nominate the theme for the next One-shot competition which will not be until September after the summer break.

Just a quick reminder about Sunday’s Photofest Ireland 2012.  Ireland’s biggest photo expo and trade show is on this Sunday, April 29^th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry. There will be free seminars presented by guest speakers like Guy Gowan and Podge Kelly as well as talks from camera giants Canon and Nikon.  There will also be bargains galore as there will be trade stalls from many aspects of the industry including Canon, Nikon, Adobe, Apple, Bermingham Cameras, Epson, DML, Fujifilm and many, many more.

But competition fans – do not worry!  We are holding our Best Four Portfolio competition in May.  Enter your best four colour prints, your best four black and white prints and your best four digital images.  Each set will be judged as a portfolio and there will be winners for the best colour portfolio, the best black and white portfolio and the best digital portfolio as well as an overall winner.  Portfolios must be entered by May 8^th and the winners will be announced at our Prize Giving night and end of season party on the 29^th of May.

May’s One-Shot competition is also coming up on May 1^st with the theme of “Fearless” and will be judged by last month’s winner Regimantas Lukosius.  The winner will receive an Eason voucher and will pick the theme of the next One-Shot competition which will be our first meeting in September after the summer break.

This is our last Monthly League Competition this season.  But we do have our Best 4 Portfolio competition in May – pick your 4 best colour prints, your 4 best black & white prints and your 4 best digital images and enter them on Tuesday May 8^th.  There are no divisions in this competition – Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Premier members will all compete against each other.  The entries will be judged as 4 (like a panel) and there will be prizes for the best Colour panel, the best black and white panel and the best digital panel.  There will also be one overall winner picked from these winners.  Winners will be announced and prizes given on our final Prize giving night which is at Molloy’s Pub on Tuesday, May 29^th.

Also this Tuesday, we will be going online and taking a look at Websites like Flickr and Pixie.  If any members already have a Website up and running we will be happy to showcase them and we will take a look at some hosting Websites if any members are interested in setting up their own sites!  Suggestions are very welcome!

Congratulations to Regimantas Lukosius on winning this month’s One Shot competition “Silhouettes/Shadows” – Reg has nominated May’s One Shot theme as “Fearless” and Reg will pick the winner on Tuesday, May 1st.  The winner of May’s One-Shot will receive an Eason’s gift voucher and will nominated the theme and judge the entries for the next competition.

TPS member John Holmes is not only an acclaimed photographer… he is also a very talented artist.  John has an exhibition of his artwork at the South Dublin County Library beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 27th.  On exhibition will be various artworks, including drawings, paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures.  Make sure you go along to John’s exhibition and show him your support.

This Tuesday is also Monthly League competition entry night!  Please bring along your printed entries and email your digital entries to info@tallaghtphotographicsociety.com by teatime on Tuesday evening.  Digital entries should be 92 dpi and no more that 1024 pixels on the long side!
