Tuesday, December 6th and more!

At our meeting this Tuesday, our very own Steve McGrane will be doing a talk on HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography and on infrared photography.  Steve has produced some beautiful images using both methods and it should be very interesting seeing the processes involved.

A huge thank you and congratulations to John Byrne, Craig Fox, Eddie Cody, Tony Victory, Shane O’Keeffe and Anne Koenig on the success of this year’s TPS International Salon.  This team work extremely hard each year on the salon and it has grown from strength to strength every year in the 21 years it has been running.  With over 4,000 entries from 51 countries, the Salon is something that every TPS member should be proud to be involved in, and it could only have been achieved with the effort put in by the Salon team.  Well done to all.

Thanks also to the members who were on hand to help with the judging process and the hanging and taking down of the Salon exhibition at the library over the last week.  Your help is much appreciated!

Just a reminder that our Christmas party this year will be held at the Old Mill pub in Tallaght, on Saturday, December 17th.  There will be platters of finger food, drinks and good craic to be had.  The price per person is €10 and it should be a fun night.  Hope to see
you there!

Finally but certainly not least – Congratulations to Liam Fox, on successfully achieving his Licentiateship from the IPF at the distinction sittings at Athlone Institute of Technology.  Liam is a talented photographer and it is great to add him to the ranks of members with IPF distinctions.  Well done Liam!

Glendalough Photographic Outing and League Competition Judging

There’s a club outing to Glendalough this coming Sunday, October 23rd.  An early start, we’re meeting in the carpark of Molloy’s pub between 9.00am and 9.30am.  If that’s a little early you can always make your own way to Glendalough and meet up with us there!  Prepare for all weathers, dress warmly and bring a packed lunch.  Don’t forget your camera and tripod!

Glendalough offers lots for an enthusiastic photographer: a graveyard, monastic ruins and a round tower set in a beautiful valley with the famous two lakes which gives the area its name.  A good stretch of the legs along the upper lake will bring you to the ruins of an abandoned lead miners’ village.  Plenty there to get those creative juices flowing!

Next Tuesday, October 25th is our Monthly League Competition judging night!  Looking forward to seeing your images!  Good luck to everyone who entered!

Looking ahead to Tuesday, November 1st…  We have our monthly One-Shot competition.  Won by Scott MacBride last month, the theme for November is Motion and is open to your own interpretation.  Entries should be printed about 10 x 8 inches and do not have to be mounted.

Also on Tuesday, November 1st is Lens Envy: DSLR Lenses and What They Do!  Members are invited to bring along their cameras and favourite lenses (and any other equipment they would like to show off) and talk about why they like those particular lenses.  Members are also encouraged to bring along images to illustrate the effects acheived by their lenses.

October 4th at the TPS

Our guest speaker this week is Mallow’s John Hooton.  John is a highly accomplished landscape photographer with 30 years’ experience in photography and it is a great honour to him come up to talk for our club.  Last year, John achieved his MFIAP with a spectacular panel of 20 images.  For more on John Hooton visit his Website:
http://john-hooton.com/

Also this Tuesday is One-Shot Competition time!  The theme of the competition is “Light” and will be judged by last month’s winner Shane O’Keeffe.  The theme is open to interpretation and is a great opportunity to exercise your creativity!  Entries in print form – at least 10 x 8 inches if possible and do not need to be mounted!  Looking forward to seeing your images!  Good luck!

More news:
Jim Nolan (formally of DML) of the Innovation Enterprise Network has invited TPS members to exhibit photos at the IE Network hot desk at the SDC Council offices.  The IE Network is an organisation committed to getting skilled and professional people back to work and it is a great opportunity to boost the profile of the club plus a chance to display the talent of TPS members to the public.  There is space for approximately 12 framed images and the exhibition would be on an ongoing basis with the images changed every 3 – 4 months.  If you want your images displayed, please submit one image printed and mounted (old league competition entries are ideal) and the first 12 images submitted will be chosen for the first 3 – 4 months.

Just a quick reminder about Peter Gordon’s “Wild Garden” book launch and exhibition on Thursday, October 6th in the Centre for Creative Practices on Pembroke Street at 7.00pm. Why not meet up and head into the launch as a group – make a night of it!  We can organise a time and place to meet at Tuesday’s meeting! See the link to the Centre for Creative Practices for more details: http://www.cfcp.ie/events/oct2011/gordon.html
